The Belleville Street Department is in charge of the upkeep and maintenance of 13 miles of street, street signs and sidewalks. The street crew is also responsible for the sealing and repairs of streets, street sweeping and snow removal. They also maintain the Municipal Airport, City Cemetery, City Park, Rocky Pond and the ball fields. Supervisor Brian Phillips has 4 full time employees in the Department, and hires a part time employee in the summer to help with mowing. The City of Belleville has tremendous inter-departmental cooperation as many of the crews from other departments typically help the Street Department with their summer responsibilities.
SIDEWALK PROGRAM
The City of Belleville offers a program to replace sidewalks that are in disrepair. Through this program, the City pays for the cost of concrete, while the property owner pays for the cost of labor and other material, such as rebar, sand, etc. This program is only for sidewalks that cross the property, not for sidewalks that would go to any structure on the property. Stop by the City Office for more information, or to pick up an application.
HOUSE DEMO
Another program the City of Belleville offers is a house demolition program to remove unused or unwanted structures. Property owners can have the city crews demolish and remove the structures for a cost of $60 per load to the County landfill, and fill in the basement or crawlspace for $30 per load of dirt. For more information or to pick up and agreement, contact the City Office at 785.527.2288.
TREE DUMP
A landfill is available to dump tree limbs, grass clippings and leaves. Simply go east of town, on 23rd Street to 170 Road and turn north. The tree dump is about 1/4 of a mile on the east side of the road.
Absolutely no trash or other debris is allowed at the Belleville Tree Dump.
